Yesterday, I attended African Green Revolution Forum Launch 2018 event held in Kigali Convention Center.
It was hosted by Mr. Strive Masiyiwa , Chairman and CEO of Econet Wireless and Chair of the AGRF Partners Group; Hon. Dr. Gérardine Mukeshimana, Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Rwanda; Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). This Launch had an intent of bolstering and raising the profile of the event within Rwanda, Region as well as globally and as we wait for the main day in September from 3rd-7th, for the forum to gather over 1500 people.
Succinctly, on my side as a personal blogger and a social activist this is what I picked up for my fellow Young Africans.
While answering to some questions, Mr. Strive Massiyiwa came up with what he compared with a Paradox that 60% and plus of the world’s unutilised agricultural land is in Africa. Most of African farmers are over 60 years old which means the youth of Africa is not involved in Agriculture, yet its population is expected to increase to four times by this century where four billions will become the number of population of Africa! What an opportunity to be young and to be in agriculture! But unfortunately, Africa is importing the chickens, eggs and beef etc; while we should be importing only the things that we can not produce.
Infinitely, that African presidents agreed up on continental free, It is the opportunity to new generation of entrepreneurs to give their contribution on dieting the importation agricultural products.
